Dante is a very striking bird, but beauty comes at a cost. His dramatic feathers around his head is a genetic trait that humans selectively bred for nothing but beauty purposes. It doesn't serve the bird in any way, but actually makes it so that the bird cannot see. A prey animal that cannot see is a doomed animal. To make matters worse, somehow Dante was out wandering the streets.
