In the shelter’s words · excerpt

This sweet-natured and friendly 33 lb guy named "Axl" suddenly finds himself in need of a new family to love. Axl's story begins sadly common, when he was rescued as a puppy along with two siblings from some very rough living conditions. When he received his routine veterinary exam, Axl was found to have a potentially lethal congenital heart defect called Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA).
