In the shelter’s words

Meet Pablo! Pablo is a lively and charismatic male Black-Capped Caique, born in 2013, making him approximately 13. He is an energetic and playful bird with a big personality. Pablo eats his pellets and chop, and gets VERY excited at chop time. He enjoys pine nuts, almond slivers, and sunflower seeds as treats. He is an avid chewer of toys, and spends a good bit of time shredding what is his. Not many birds imitate other birds quite as successfully as Pablo does. He can perfectly repeat the call of the cockatiels in his foster home, and will mimic the amazon there, going back and forth. He whistles melodies often as well. Pablo is a puzzle when it comes to whom he decides to like. He interacts well and takes treats nicely through the sides of his cage from everyone, but is quite aggressive toward the woman in the family when out of the cage. He does better with the male figure in the foster home, but his favorite person is the teenage girl. He also has allowed a lot of interaction and touch from his "foster grandmother" who cares for him when the family is away. All this to say he is picky. He'd require a good amount of time to determine if he'll work with a potential adopter. Pablo does have a plucking issue, and his belly now only has down on it. This doesn't seem to be worsening, but should be carefully monitored by an adopter. Because of his very particular preferences and tastes, Pablo should only go to a very experienced bird guardian, and will require 3 visits before he can be adopted. According to past information from when Pablo was initially surrendered to our rescue, he can form a very close bond with someone over time. The right person will be lucky to have his companionship! Pablo is being fostered in Limerick, PA (near the Philadelphia Premium Outlets). He will require 3 visits to be adopted. We do not ship our adoptable birds. For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA. As our adoptable birds live in private volunteer homes, we only allow approved adopters to make the required visits. If interested in adopting Pablo, please visit our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org Please read our adoption policies, and fees and complete an adoption application.

The first step in the adoption process is the completion and submission of the Adoption Application. The application should be emailed to fortheloveofbirdsnj@gmail.com. Be sure to include two personal references and a veterinary reference. We check the references and then will reach out to you to schedule a mutually convenient time to talk on the phone. After your application is approved and based on your preferences, lifestyle and bird experience we will recommend a bird(s) for you to meet. Or you can let us know if you are interested in adopting one of our available birds. For small birds like finches and budgies, they typically can be adopted after one visit to their foster home. Medium to large parrots require at least three visits with the bird at their foster home. The reason for this is three fold. This provides the potential adopter with time to consider whether the bird is a good match with their family and life style and gives you time to get your house ready for the bird to move in. Second it gives the bird several opportunities to meet with you and get used to you. Many birds are hesitant with new people during their first visit meeting with them. And finally, it allows the foster home to watch how you interact with the bird and they can pass along information on the bird and educate the potential adopter on bird husbandry as needed. All of our adoptable birds are cared for in private foster homes throughout New Jersey. Each of our birds are treated as the unique individual that they are. Please note that we require a waiting period of at least 6 months between bringing new birds into your home. Each bird requires a transition period to be comfortable with their new family and in their new home. Please don't short change your bird by bringing another flock member in too soon. There is an adoption fee; fees are listed on our website. Our birds are sent home with their cage, toys and some food to get you started. Additionally, all of our birds are di
