In the shelter’s words
Guten Tag (Hello in German) I am Josie, a very smart, 70 lbs., three-year-old girl, with classic GSD coloring. My fosters have been very patient with me. When they have guests, I love to meet and play with them. I was enrolled in a training program to improve my behavior around other dogs while on walks. I have improved, but still need practice. I understand heel, stay, and sit, the basics of being a good girl. I am working on being a better passenger, learning to relax and not get overly excited. Some of my favorite things are walks, playing with my toys, and napping in the sun. I love when my foster parents say, “Get a toy, Josie, and let’s play.” I run over to my toy box and throw a few out until I find my favorite. I have access to the yard through a doggie door, so my foster parents don’t have to get up to take me out to relieve myself. At night, I am not crated, although I have access to it. I quietly check on my family. I am very good at getting into my crate when they need to go shopping or to other appointments. I just nap and wait for them to return with lots of kisses. My best home would be with active people. I have never been around children, so I cannot say how I might behave. It will be best for me to be the only dog. I am really looking for a committed family because I know I have lots of potential and want an opportunity to prove how loving and wonderful I can be. If I sound like the girl you are looking for, I would love to meet you. You can ask my foster parents any questions you may have about me. I know they will miss me, but we are all excited for me to find my forever family.

Our adoption process is designed to help you and the right dog find each other. Our goal is to place each dog into a permanent, safe, and loving home. For the safety of small children and their families and the well being of younger dogs, we will only adopt dogs 4 years and older to families with children under the age of 7. To adopt a German Shepherd Dog from us, you must: 1. Live in Northern California. 2. Complete an Adoption Questionnaire, either online, or hard-copy (pdf format). If you do not own your home, your landlord must provide the completed Landlord Permission Agreement(pdf format). 3. Be interviewed by an adoption counselor. 4. Allow a home visit conducted by a GSRNC adoption counselor. 5. Choose, and be chosen by, the right dog. 6. With our approval, sign our Adoption Agreement, and pay the associated adoption fee. 7. At the time of adoption we also collect a deposit which is refunded after completion of two training sessions.
