In the shelter’s words
You can hear our gorgeous singing voices here! Inka (female) and Momo (male) were dropped off at the shelter. They are Yellow-naped Amazons. Inka is about 20 years-old and Momo is about 15 years-old. Inka was hatched in Hawaii and was given to the family by a friend who went to work for the US government and didn't want to put her through the travel restrictions of going from country to country every 2-3 years. She greets you with Aloha! She says dodo for goodnight. Momo was purchased in San Mateo when he was only 6 months old as a companion for Inka. He was all green and eventually developed his yellow nape. He was taught a song "I am a green bird, but I am turning yellow, yellow, yellow, yellow. I am turning yellow!" He sings it in a very soulful tune. Both are very talkative, and love to sing and communicate. They eat beans, rice, lentils, raw celery, raw corn, cooked yams, potatoes, etc. They would probably like chop, but they aren't used to eating pellets. Foster Update: Our foster mom already has us eating pellets. That is healthy for us! Inka went to the vet and was diagnosed with a hernia. It isn't likely to cause her problems in the future though. Like most Americans, Inka needs to lose some weight. August 2026 Foster UpdateOur bonus babies have officially upgraded me from "the human who feeds us" to Mom. They sound just like two of my girls now—especially when they want something. They've learned so much: - They say "Good morning," "Goodnight," and "Time for bed."- They've stopped saying bad words (thank goodness).- Camila taught them to say, "I slay."- They once yelled, "You're in trouble... I'm telling?"- Lately, all they say is "Why?" thanks to the baby being in that phase. They even mimic our dogs perfectly—they know every bark and cry. Inka laughs like the Joker now and somehow learned how to whistle at night. I'm going to try to record it because it's absolutely hilarious. One of my favorite things is watching my 5-year-old when she's upset. She'll sit there and talk their ears off, and they literally climb down to her level and just listen. It's the sweetest thing. Don't get me wrong—they're mean as a pickle sometimes and destroy everything in sight... but they are the absolute best bonus family members we could have. And today's accomplishment? Momo figured out how to unscrew the bolts on the cage and OPEN THE DOORS. Nothing is safe anymore! You can see more about me at https://mickaboo.org!
