In the shelter’s words

Meet Sage – A Gentle Soul Looking for His Person Sage is a beautiful German Shepherd dog born in late April with a tender heart and a quiet spirit. While some puppies charge into the world without a second thought, Sage prefers to take his time, carefully observing new people and situations before deciding they're safe. Because of his sensitive nature, Sage is looking for a patient and understanding family that will let him move at his own pace. He thrives in calm, predictable environments and needs adopters who understand that confidence can't be rushed—it grows through trust, consistency, and kindness. A confident, social resident dog is required for Sage. Having a canine companion helps him feel secure, teaches him that the world isn't so scary, and encourages him to be brave. He looks to other dogs for guidance and gains confidence from their example every day. Once Sage feels comfortable, his sweet personality begins to shine. He is affectionate, loyal, and deeply devoted to the people he trusts. Watching him overcome his fears and celebrate new experiences is incredibly rewarding, and the bond you build with him will be one that feels truly special. Sage's ideal family will appreciate the small victories, celebrate his progress, and understand that some of the most meaningful relationships take time to grow. In return, Sage will offer unwavering loyalty, gentle companionship, and a lifetime of love. If you have a patient heart, a confident canine friend, and room in your home for a puppy who simply needs someone to believe in him, Sage may be the perfect addition to your family. If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet! The adoption fee of $350 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed! *please note that we are a foster home based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Thank you for your understanding.
