In the shelter’s words

Starting October 6, all cats and kittens are FREE to adopt! Come find your new best friend today! Ever wondered what it would be like to own a cat the size of a small dog? Meet Gust! Meet Gust! Gust is a very large 4‑year‑old brown tabby with striking white markings — and yes, he really is as big as everyone says. He came to us after his owner could no longer care for him or his 13 siblings, and he has quickly become one of the most talked‑about cats in the entire shelter. With his impressive size, gentle nature, and goofy charm, Gust has a way of winning over even people who swear they’re “not cat people.” After all, how can you resist a cat who’s bigger than a small dog? When Gust first arrived, he was carrying a bit of extra weight, so he’s currently on OM weight‑management food and will need to stay on it until he reaches a healthier size. He doesn’t mind — especially when mealtime comes with praise and pets. Despite his size, Gust is a soft, sweet boy who loves attention and enjoys being near people. He settled in quickly and has shown nothing but affection toward staff and volunteers.Gust is good with kids and cats, and he has not had any negative reactions to dogs. His calm, friendly personality makes him a great fit for many types of homes, especially one that can help him continue his weight‑loss journey with love, patience, and maybe a few extra play sessions. If you’re looking for a gentle giant with a heart of gold, Gust might be the perfect addition to your family. He’s ready to bring joy, cuddles, and a whole lot of personality into his forever home.Gust's adoption fee is $50, which helps support their medical care and preparation for adoption. Please note: All of our animals are spayed/neutered and up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations. Each pet also receives a behavioral assessment to help us better understand the type of home they may thrive in. However, it’s important to remember that the results may not fully reflect an animal’s true personality, as shelter and foster environments can be stressful. If you are interested in meeting any of our animals, we encourage you to first visit our website and submit an adoption application: https://www.acskc.org/adopt-1Once your adoption application has been approved, we will call you to set up an appointment to meet with the pet! We welcome adopters from out of state to apply! _When it comes to our pets, we're all-inclusive! Plan a visit with the source organization

Once you’re ready to adopt, head over to our Adoption Application to fill out and submit the form. Once our Adoption Team has reviewed and approved your application, we will give you a call to schedule an appointment with the pet! When you arrive at ACSKC, you will be greeted by our Adoption Coordinator and taken to meet the pet, either in our Meet and Greet Room or one of the play yards. If you already have pets in the home, you may be asked to bring them with you for a meet and greet to ensure they will get along in the home (this typically only applies to dogs). If you and our Adoption Coordinator feel like it is a good match, we will then finalize the paperwork and send you home with a bag of goodies, including our “Welcoming Your New Pet Home Guide,” toys, treats and a sample bag of their pet food. If it is not a good match, you are welcome to meet the other available pets in the shelter. Your approved application will be kept on file for 90 days, so you’re encouraged to take your time before making a decision!
