In the shelter’s words

This gorgeous girl is a Lab (or maybe a mix), about 3 1/2 years old with a shiny black coat. Sadly, her life before us wasn’t great. She probably lived outside, tied up or in a pen, having litter after litter. She’s already had two or three. Bama, formerly known as Confetti, spent over two months in an overcrowded shelter, and she was likely close to being on the dreaded list. But we couldn’t let that happen. We said, “She’s coming with us!” During Bonding Week, we gave her toys, and she didn’t know what to do with them at first. But she’s learning, gaining confidence each day, and bonding with the men. She was a bit unsure about them when they first met, but now she’s warming up, and already has some favorites! She even had her first little bounce chasing a ball! At 71 pounds, we think Bama would thrive in a home with a family. She’s wonderful with adults and kids alike, enjoys the company of other social dogs, and is the kind of dog who will truly thrive in a home of her own—especially with people who are just as excited to love her as she is to love them.

If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please fill out an adoption application. After filling out the application, please save or print and scan it and email to: adopt@caninecellmates.org. As soon as we have received your application, a member of our Adoption Coordination team will be in touch with you. Next, we would like for you to attend one of our meet n' greets to meet your potential new pup face to face (dates and times will be announced on our Events page). Lastly, we will conduct a home visit and introduction to your family (both human and non-human). Additionally, all of our dogs require an adoption fee. The dogs in the Canine CellMates program are all selected from Fulton County Animal Control, a high-kill facility, which is now under the management of Lifeline Animal Project. Each dog chosen for the program undergoes extensive temperament testing to determine their suitability for the program. Under the supervision of volunteer professional trainers and assistants, the dogs and their handlers spend eight weeks learning basic obedience. Equally important, the dogs are socialized around a variety of people and other dogs during this period. Canine CellMates’ dogs are available for adoption immediately and will be able to go to their forever homes after graduation. Canine CellMates will carefully screen all adoption applications to ensure the right match between dog and person. Like all dogs adopted from FCAS, the Canine CellMates graduates are fully vaccinated, micro chipped, spayed or neutered and are on monthly heartworm prevention.
