In the shelter’s words
Hatch Date: 2001 Sunny is a geriatric little Sun Conure, presumed male, but DNA testing is pending. He is 25 years old. He lived in a home with the same guardian most of his life, but his doting mom sadly recently passed away, which has led to Sunny being surrendered to the rescue. He is used to sharing a room with other parrots, each having their own cage, but being comfortable spending time out of the cage with each other. He doesn't seem to love being around other birds, so he would likely do well either in a home with friends or a home where he is his family's only bird. Sunny is very nervous and shy, but steps up and will hang out on the shoulders of his foster family. He seems to have a preference for the man in the house, but is not aggressive toward anyone. While Sunny has only been in his foster home for a few weeks, he has been very quiet for a sun conure. He makes some noise when the other birds in the home are loud, but otherwise isn't very interested in attention. He is not aggressive with the other birds in his foster home at all. Sunny eats a healthy diet of chop and pellets, and loves to bathe in his water dish. He isn't a big fan of spray baths. He loves sunflower seeds in the shell as a treat. He also loves pasta and other "people food," when he is allowed to have it. Sunny has been disease tested for PBFD and Chlamydia. Sunny would make an excellent addition to the right family. He is being fostered in Limerick, PA (near the Philadelphia Premium Outlets) and will require 2 visits to be adopted. We do not ship our birds. For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA. As our adoptable birds are living in private volunteer homes, we only allow approved adopters to make the required visits. If interested in adopting Sunny, please visit our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org. Please read our adoption policies and fees and complete an adoption application.

The first step in the adoption process is the completion and submission of the Adoption Application. The application should be emailed to fortheloveofbirdsnj@gmail.com. Be sure to include two personal references and a veterinary reference. We check the references and then will reach out to you to schedule a mutually convenient time to talk on the phone. After your application is approved and based on your preferences, lifestyle and bird experience we will recommend a bird(s) for you to meet. Or you can let us know if you are interested in adopting one of our available birds. For small birds like finches and budgies, they typically can be adopted after one visit to their foster home. Medium to large parrots require at least three visits with the bird at their foster home. The reason for this is three fold. This provides the potential adopter with time to consider whether the bird is a good match with their family and life style and gives you time to get your house ready for the bird to move in. Second it gives the bird several opportunities to meet with you and get used to you. Many birds are hesitant with new people during their first visit meeting with them. And finally, it allows the foster home to watch how you interact with the bird and they can pass along information on the bird and educate the potential adopter on bird husbandry as needed. All of our adoptable birds are cared for in private foster homes throughout New Jersey. Each of our birds are treated as the unique individual that they are. Please note that we require a waiting period of at least 6 months between bringing new birds into your home. Each bird requires a transition period to be comfortable with their new family and in their new home. Please don't short change your bird by bringing another flock member in too soon. There is an adoption fee; fees are listed on our website. Our birds are sent home with their cage, toys and some food to get you started. Additionally, all of our birds are di
