In the shelter’s words

About MeMeet Rikki, a sweet and outgoing kitty who’s ready to find her forever home! Rikki is the ultimate companion—she’ll greet you at the door, follow you from room to room, and keep a curious eye on whatever you’re up to. She loves to explore, play with wand toys and mice, and scratch away on her post. When it’s time to relax, you’ll find her perched in her cat tree gazing out the window or snuggled up for some quality cuddle time.Rikki is a social kitty who prefers not to be left alone for long stretches of time. She loves people and would do well in a home that can provide her plenty of play time, social interaction, and affection. She’s done well with young children but can get excited around people and sometimes needs a bit of redirection to a toy or scratching post to prevent little play bites or grabs. Slow introductions to other pets is recommended as she may take some time to warm up to them. And as if Rikki weren't already special enough, she has a naturally curly, ring-shaped tail! It's a rare trait sometimes called a ringtail, and while she can straighten it when she stretches, she usually carries it in an adorable little curl. One little thing to know about Rikki is that she's FIV-positive (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus), but don't let that scare you! FIV-positive cats can live long, happy, healthy lives with good nutrition, routine veterinary care, and an indoor lifestyle. FIV is not contagious to people or dogs, and it's primarily transmitted between cats through deep bite wounds—not through everyday activities like sharing food bowls, grooming, or snuggling together. That means FIV-positive cats can often live safely with FIV-negative cats in peaceful, compatible households.Rikki has so much love, personality, and companionship to offer, and her FIV status doesn't change any of that. If you're looking for a loyal little shadow, an enthusiastic playmate, and a snuggly companion, Rikki would love to meet you! ----------WHERE IS THIS PET LOCATED? Adoption applications must be completed, which include information regarding references and vet clinic information, DL #, names, etc. Reference checks are conducted and when necessary vetting information verified. Discussion about the animal interested in to best assure appropriate and proper placement is made, and educational information regarding how to manage a multi-dog/animal household, slow and proper introductions and the importance of a shut-down period to help the animal acclimate to new surroundings. A "meet and greet" with the animal is required and whenever possible all residents of the household should be present. Home checks may, but not always, be necessary. After adoption applications is approved a contract is required, where we also stipulate that if for any reason the adopter determines they no longer want or can care for the animal we require it be returned to us, with the exception of documented bite history or potentially dangerous or dangerous dog designations. Adoption fees vary, but are comparable to or less than other local rescues and typically are $300 or less for a canine and $150 for a feline.
