In the shelter’s words

Hi! My name is Giorgio, or as my foster family calls me, George or Georgie! I am a 4 year old flashy brindle boy that will charm you with my one blue eye and small stature! Prior to the rescue I got myself into an unknown situation which resulted in an extensive injury and infection to my front left leg causing it to be amputated. I had 49 staples which all have been removed and the scar is healed nicely! I am able to easily move around in the home with little carpeting or rugs. I am also heartworm positive but the rescue will assist with my treatment! I am house trained, crate trained, sleep on the dog bed in the human's room, eat dry or wet food because I'll eat pretty much anything edible, and am well behaved when being left alone if the humans are away. I live with a pit/boxer submissive girl and we get along well. A much larger girl dog stayed with us for a week and at the beginning I was scared and it took me a couple of days of slow intros to be comfortable around her and not growl at her. I will grumble at new people that enter the home but keep my distance until I warm up to them. I do not live with a cat so it is uncertain if I am feline friendly. I live with 3 teenagers and love them all, especially when they give me attention and affection! I have met young school age or late toddler aged kids during my neighborhood walk and am gentle with them and enjoy them loving on me! Given the multiple vet appointments I have had you would think I'd be ok in the car but I'm not. I get nervous and prefer someone to sit with me and comfort me. As for my ideal home, there are a couple of requests. I need a home with no stairs or if there are stairs, it's to an area that is not used by anyone so that I do not go up them. I also need a raised feeder to help me not have to lean over so much and misdistribute weight on only one front leg. In the raised feeder I would benefit from a slow feeder bowl because I put away food in no time! I have learned the sound of the treat jar opening, have found my voice, and enjoy moving shoes randomly in the home! Some of my favorite things are getting attention & affection, being outside to roll in the grass, food, treats, and following the humans to know what they are doing! If you think I would make a great addition to your family, contact the rescue today and give them my name because I am waiting to meet you! If you're interested in fostering a dog, please fill out the Foster Application https://austinboxerrescue.com/ways-to-help/foster/ If you're interested in adopting a dog, please fill out the Adoption Application http://austinboxerrescue.com/adoption-application/Our volunteers will work with you to find the best dog for your home.

Plan a visit with the source organization

The Process to adopt a dog through Austin Boxer Rescue is as follows: Fill out an Online Adoption Application below. Your application will be reviewed and sent to a volunteer in your area. The volunteer will contact you to schedule a home visit within one week. Normally, a volunteer would come to your house for a home visit, but until further notice, visits are being done virtually. After your home visit is complete and you are approved you can begin meeting dogs. The Adoption Coordinator will assist you in this process. Please note: The application process begins immediately once an application is submitted and approvals tend to occur quickly. Please do not submit an application unless you are ready to take home a dog. ABR does not have the space or capability to hold dogs, therefore, dogs are adopted out on a first-come-first-serve basis.
