In the shelter’s words

Meet Ellie! A sweet almost two-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix currently in Lenexa, KS, whose heart is as big as her strong, graceful frame wrapped in a beautiful white and gray coat. Ellie is a loving girl who finds pure joy in the simple things, like belly rubs, gentle brushing sessions, and soaking up affection from her favorite humans! She has a loyal spirit and a protective nature, always keeping a watchful, caring eye on her people while offering comfort in the most touching ways, especially when she senses someone needs a little extra love. This playful companion thrives outdoors and absolutely lights up around water, making her a wonderful partner for adventures like hiking, lake days, or long neighborhood walks! She enjoys chewing on her favorite toys and happily joins in any activity that lets her burn off energy and stay engaged. Ellie already knows commands like sit and kennel, and she is eager to continue learning with positive reinforcement and guidance from a patient caregiver. Ellie is friendly, well mannered, and carries a gentle, submissive personality around other dogs, though thoughtful introductions will help her feel confident in new friendships. She is not compatible with cats, so a cat-free environment will help her feel at ease. Around people, including children, she shows a tender and affectionate nature, often staying close as a constant companion. She would thrive in a new loving home with space to move and a family familiar with large breeds who can provide structure, reassurance in new situations, and continued socialization. Ellie may need a little encouragement in unfamiliar environments, but her sensitivity and emotional awareness make her incredibly special! Healthy overall, Ellie is spayed and may require some attention to allergies common in lighter coated pups, but she remains an active and happy girl ready for her next chapter. If you are looking for a loyal adventure buddy who will shower you with affection and stand by your side through it all, Ellie is ready to meet you!
