In the shelter’s words

Meet Inky Some dogs run straight into your arms. Others make you earn your way into their heart—and somehow, that makes every little piece of their trust feel like a gift. Inky is one of those dogs. Inky came to us with her Dachshund-mix family after living in a home where the dogs were used for breeding. She appears to be a little older than the others, and it’s entirely possible she may even be their mama. We may never know exactly what role Inky played in their previous life, but we do know that she arrived as the shyest of the bunch. This beautiful girl prefers to observe things from the perimeter while she decides whether everything is safe. But look closely and you’ll realize something important: Inky wants connection. She watches you with the most soulful eyes, and when your eyes meet, you can almost see her working up the courage. Then, slowly, she makes her way over. And before you know it, this cautious little girl is crawling into your lap. The first time we saw Inky’s tail wag was pure magic. It may seem like such a small thing, but in rescue, sometimes a tail wag tells an entire story. It told us that somewhere underneath all that uncertainty was a little dog beginning to believe that maybe she was safe. Maybe these humans were good. And maybe being loved could actually feel pretty wonderful. Quick Facts Dachshund mix with that adorable long Doxie body A little older than the others in her family—and possibly their mama Shy, gentle & wonderfully sensitive Has the most beautiful, soulful eyes Wants connection even when she’s still working up the courage to ask for it Will quietly make her way over and crawl into your lap Her trust is something truly special to earn Needs patience, reassurance & continued confidence building Accustomed to having canine companions A little chunkier than the rest of her crew—more Inky to love! Would benefit from a family familiar with Dachshunds and their long-back care needs Located in Southern California Inky isn’t going to be the dog bouncing at the front of the crowd demanding your attention. She’ll be nearby, watching and wondering if you might be someone she can trust. Give her the time to answer that question for herself. Because the moment those soulful eyes meet yours, that little tail starts wagging, and Inky quietly climbs into your lap, you’ll understand just how precious it is to be chosen by her.
