In the shelter’s words
Who loves a good game of red light, green light?? This guy is amazing at stopping you in your tracks to be sure he’s with you at all times! He is crate trained (will whine some but easily corrects with ecollar), fixed, up to date on vaccinations. Guessing 2 yrs old. He loves his human and tolerates the bonus ones. He can NOT be in a home with children or a home that may someday have children. The perfect forever home would be a single person that has a lot of time and energy to put into one life long partner. Shortly after coming into rescue he was diagnosed with EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency). Short explanation for a long word… his body doesn’t absorb nutrients from food he eats. He is on a very strict diet. He must have enzymes on every single meal and b12 intrinsic every morning. These 2 meds are life sustaining. Without them he will starve to death slowly. Along with normal kibble he will need some supplemental foods such as bananas, yogurt, baby foods. This boy lives up to his name Steel. He has been through it yet pushed on everyday to get where he is today! Literally a rock star! Due to the ravenous appetite of his body believing it’s starving he can NOT be around children and may always show a bit of food aggression and resource guarding. His future is looking bright and pretty normal but there is always a risk of increased meds and adding others to the regime to keep him healthy. I won’t bore every reader with the in and outs of EPI but for any potential adopter I am willing to go through what things look like on the daily now and what his future looks like very in-depth. He does have a small amount of separation anxiety which will most likely always be a part of him due to his need to know he will get that next meal. He doesn’t mind other dogs but for some reason he sure isn’t a favorite on the playground. Would be best as an only dog but could coexist with another dog as long as the other dog isn’t going to over step boundaries and the adopter is going to be very attentive and not leave then alone together without supervision. He’s more of a loner that loves his toys and his one best human friend! He must be crated when left alone due to his love for food. This guy will literally be a best friend to his adopter. If you are interested in meeting and/or adopting this baby, please fill out an application. They currently are fixed, up to date on shots, wormings, preventatives and are microchipped (with lifetime registration). Adoption fee is $215 with approved application, applications can be filled out at this link. https://www.petstablished.com/adoption_form/10167/generic .

Thank you so much for considering a rescued pet as your next family member! People like you extending your faith in second hand pets is what makes our rescue go round. We depend on adoptions to not only enrich the life of our rescue pet, but to save the life of the next one in line, that we can't take until our babies find their new forevers. We want you to know that your time is very valuable to us and we want our entire process to be done in good faith. We need you to be honest with us and we will be honest with you. Any deception found during the application process will be grounds for denial. Requirements: We understand how important your time is and how emotional adding a new pet to the family can be. We are an all volunteer rescue with no paid staff, so we are going to do our best to help you know from the get go if your home environment will be a harmonious fit for what we are looking for in our new adoptive parents. Our checks are extensive, so we ask that you maintain an honest dialogue with us throughout the application. While we believe that any home can become a great one with education, we can not trust applicants that start off on the wrong foot with any untruths during the application process. Your current pets need to be fixed. Unless there is a medical issue or compelling reason that your current pets aren't fixed, we will need to pass on your application. Even though our pets are fixed, elevated levels of hormones in existing pets can cause a greater chance of hostility which can lead to fights. A female going into heat can also make recently altered males act out in a way that wasn't anticipated. We want to set each adoption up for success and mixing our stray babies into a home with unaltered pets is not a recipe for success. Your current pets need to have an active vet history. Monthly preventatives and annual vaccinations are preferred. Some exceptions are made for age and health concerns, but an active history with annual wellness exams are
