In the shelter’s words
MEET GADGET! He’s funny. He’s thick. He’s super dog-friendly. He has a foot fettish and will whizz on your kitchen floor after being outside just because. Found as a stray with Gizmo (who has since found his furever home), Gadget is now happily doing chores with foster mom and dad on the farm and is safe around chickens, horses, dogs and pretty much anything living. He’s just a happy little doofus and will be your shadow if you let him. Gadget is a mixed breed and like lots of short nosed dogs, has had to have nares surgery to help him breathe. He also had some muscle mass to rebuild, having likely spent a lot of time in a crate. Now recovered and stronger, he is ready to find his own place (but would very much like there to be humans and other dogs in it please). We wouldn’t exactly say Meatball is trained, but he does have excellent recall. Foster Mom says he’s like a Yo-Yo and will follow her around the farm, go off and smell the roses and run right back to nibble on her toes. He plays with the other dogs and cuddles in a big pile of puppies when it’s time to rest. He is doing better with house training (about 75% of the way there), and would benefit from a strict schedule to help him perfect this important life skill. He’s pretty young (we think he is less than a year old) and has puppy tendencies so patience is a virtue with him. He hasn’t had much experience riding in cars and was a total ditz on the way to the farm so riding in a crate is recommended. Gadget’s adoption donation fee is $450, which includes spay/neuter, routine vetting and a microchip. You can apply for him by filling out our online application, which is found on our website www.tarashouse.org. Please email us at info@tarashouse.net with any questions. Description of Our Adoption Process 1) Submit Online Adoption Application •Complete your adoption application online at www.tarashouse.net/adoptionapplication.html by filling in all required information, including your veterinarian information, landlord, etc. When all questions are answered, click submit to send to our Adoption Committee. 2) Initial Telephone Interview •Within 3 - 5 days after online submittal of your application a Tara's House representative will conduct your initial interview by telephone if our Adoption Committee decides to pursue your application. If your adoption application was submitted in person during a monthly adoption show, we will review your application and conduct the initial interview in person on the spot. 3) Reference Check •A Tara's House representative will call all references, especially your vet and landlord (if applicable), if we wish to proceed with your application after the initial review. 4) The Home Visit •If Tara's House finds all references give positive feedback and every other requirement has been met to this phase of our process, one of our Adoption Committee members will contact you to arrange a brief home visit. We will ask you to demonstrate a day in the life of your potential adopted dog and evaluate the environment and conditions for the dog. 5) Adoption Approval •After the home visit, our Adoption Committee convenes - usually virtually - to discuss your application and lessons learned as we worked through each phase of our process. From this collaborative review, our Adoption Committee will make the final decision on your application and inform you of their decision in short order. •If you are approved to adopt a Tara's House dog, you must sign and submit to Tara's House our legally binding adoption contract along with our adoption fee in the amount of $270-$375, depending on the dog (payable by check made to Tara's House), as well as pick your new dog from the applicable foster home within three days
