In the shelter’s words
* This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, November 7th from 12PM – 3PM (unless adopted prior to the event). 3910 Middlefield Road All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption. Adoption Fee: $700 Meet Ty: Your Adventure Buddy and Class Overachiever! ** Ty is an option for Foster-to-Adopt, and his trainer is available to offer support! ** Ty is an 11–12 month old Cattle Dog mix weighing about 28 pounds, with a sharp mind, a playful personality, and an enthusiastic approach to making friends. Surrendered by his previous owner, this handsome young guy is ready to find a family who will appreciate his affectionate nature and give that clever brain something fun to do! For the past three weeks, Ty has been fostered by a dog trainer, and he’s been making quite an impression. His report card? Fast learner, excellent enthusiasm, and very likely to volunteer for extra credit. One Smart Cookie Ty picks up new skills extremely quickly and even offers behaviors on his own to see what earns a reward. He’s making great progress with his commands and learning that “yes” means he’s done something right. His foster describes training him as a joy. He would be a wonderful match for someone who enjoys teaching tricks, practicing skills, and making learning part of everyday life. With Ty, a training session is another opportunity to have fun together. People Are His Favorite Ty loves meeting people and being included in whatever is happening. During a visit to his foster’s office, he happily played with toys and enthusiastically greeted everyone. Office morale committee? Ty considers himself hired. His previous foster also reported that he enjoyed spending time with children, especially playing ball with the grandkids. He loves attention, petting, and a good neck massage. After some exercise and engagement, he’s happy to settle down and enjoy being near his people. Ready for Your Next Adventure Looking for a companion for long weekend hikes or, once he’s physically mature and appropriately conditioned, runs together? Ty would love to apply. He’s active, playful, and eager to get out and explore. He also travels well in a car crate, making it easy to bring him along for the fun. Ty has even learned to use a treadmill! That gives his future family another exercise option alongside outdoor outings, sniffing, play, and training. A big yard isn’t a requirement: apartment living could work well with a family committed to meeting his exercise and enrichment needs. Good Habits at Home Ty is housetrained, crate-trained, and has previously used a doggie door. He sleeps soundly in his crate through the night and has shown that he can settle between activities. His current foster believes he can do well with a person who works an eight-hour day, provided a dog walker gives him a midday break. A predictable routine, appropriate chew toys, and engaging activities will help this bright young dog put his energy to good use. Making Canine Connections Ty has done very well on pack walks alongside his foster’s dog. He’s playful and energetic, and could enjoy a compatible canine companion or thrive as the only dog in the home. He does show some reactivity toward other dogs, which his trainer foster is actively helping him work through. His adopters should be prepared to continue that work and introduce new dogs thoughtfully. To help everyone get off to a strong start, his foster is offering free training sessions to Ty’s adopter! His Ideal Match Ty is looking for an active person or family who wants an involved, entertaining companion and enjoys the process of helping a young dog learn. He’ll thrive with regular exercise, mental challenges, clear guidance, and plenty of affection. With his quick mind, friendly personality, and willingness to try, Ty brings a lot to the partnership. Whether you’re heading out for a weekend adventure, celebrating a newly mastered skill, or winding down with a neck scratch, Ty is ready to be right there with you.
