In the shelter’s words
Hi there! My name is Jocko. I used to be a NAVY Seal.....ok not really but hey, I'm pretty cool like that!! Anyway, I was part of a 28 dog hoarding situation, where the wonderful people at Lucies came and took us all in. I was adopted by a family that I thought were really nice, but then it turned out that they didn't really want to have me as their dog. They didn't want to take the time to provide proper training, so I was returned to Lucies. We aren't born perfect - we need guidance from our owners and love and attention! I am leash and crate trained, so that's a plus! I'm looking for a family who will keep me and take care of me for all of years. I'm tired of being disappointed... Inquire about me! I would inquire about you, but you know without opposable thumbs, it's kinda hard for me type ;) *** We strive to ensure our dogs are going to a safe, loving and caring home. Phone interviews are required for all adoptions****

Plan a visit with the source organization
Interested adopters contact our adoption volunteer either via email or phone. Our volunteer in turn talks to them more about the pet they are interested in. If the adopter seems like a good match, they are requested to complete an application. They come to the rescue location to meet the dog of interest. We also sometimes arrange a home visit to make sure the environment is suitable for the dog. If all is well, they will get a call from a volunteer letting them know they are approved for adoption. They will be provided copies of the vaccination and sterilization records. A delivery day will be arranged for the dog. Either the adopter may come and pick up the dog, or a volunteer can arrange to have the dog delivered. They sign our adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. We do periodically contact our adopters to check up on the dog to make sure everyone is happy and healthy and enjoying their new life!
