In the shelter’s words
February 2026: Polly is a happy tail wagging girl who is ready for her forever home. She is about 8 years old and weighs 25 pounds. She is a sweetheart with a playful spirit and a loving heart. She's more active than most senior dogs and absolutely loves people. Polly has gone from skittish to playful and continues to feel more confident every day. She loves to explore and always does it with an excited skip to her step. Chasing lizards is also a great pastime. Walks are very enjoyable as she is very easy and ready to walk with people. She likes pats behind her ear and on her belly. Polly has a lot of love to give to someone willing to have patience and give her the chance to give it. She is a pretty, intelligent, and sweet dog. She would be okay with other dogs with after a proper introduction. Polly has spent many years in the Shelter waiting for her chance. Now it's her turn to experience life in a real home. Polly is cared for at the Shelter, sharing a room with her sister Cassandra. All the Shelter dogs get a walk and are fed both in the morning and the afternoon. Because of her limited walks, she is not quite housebroken. However, we believe that with more daily walks or access to a backyard, she would be quickly housebroken. Plan a visit with the source organization
Our adoption process is fairly standard. After at least two of our board members review the application, we follow up with any comments or questions. We then will check all of your references, including the vet reference. The last step in approving your application is a virtual home visit via FaceTime or Zoom. We do this to ensure that we are leaving the dog in a safe place, and to further answer any of your questions about the process. The virtual home visit lets us meet you, and clarify the next steps of the dog's arrival. When we adopt out adult dogs, we ALWAYS do a foster to adopt process. We never have you sign any adoption contracts until you have met the dog, and decided it is a good fit. We ask that once the dog arrives you give it 1-2 weeks before making any final decisions. This allows the dog to safely adjust to you and to get used to its new surroundings. Also you will have some time to bond with the dog. Once you are ready to finalize the adoption, we will have you then fill out and return the adoption contract, sign and return the diet agreement, pay the $400.00 adoption fee, and schedule a vet visit. We will stay in touch during every step of the way. We care deeply about these dogs and are here to support you through this journey.
