In the shelter’s words

A SWEET, PLAYFUL SENIOR FELLOW: Approx. 9 years old / Approx. 46 lbs. Hi there, I'm Roy! I came to Mostly Mutts after finding myself at animal control—I don't remember how I ended up there, but I'm so grateful to be safe & well cared for now. When I arrived, it was clear that I had been neglected for years as I had thin fur & some skin issues, I needed a dental cleaning & had infected ears & sore eyes. I needed bloodwork, which I received thanks to a generous grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization. I'm feeling & looking much better & ready for my next chapter! I was selected to participate in the Mostly Mutts Prison Pups immersive training experience & learned a lot! I'm a sweet, hopeful guy who's excited about the future & dreaming of a loving home & family that will take wonderful care of me. I'm in a wonderful foster home while I wait for my furever family to find me. Perhaps you? • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I recently met dogs at Mostly Mutts & I was friendly with them. I can be a playful boy, but I'm also respectful of the older female chihuahua in my foster home who prefers to be left alone. If you have a nice doggie at home already, let's meet & see if we can be pals. / I'm respectful of the 4 cats in my foster home, & one of them even comes to snuggle with me frequently, which is totally okay with me! All cats are different, so I'm not sure how I would do with another kitty. / I like the calm 8-year-old boy in my foster home who knows how to read my cues when I need a little space, as well as not hold food at my level as I may grab it & nip some little fingers accidently, so kids around this age or older may be a good fit. Let's meet & best no very young kids that I may bump over, try to “steal” food from, or that may pull on my ears as they are sensitive or hug me which I may see as restraint. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I'm described as a friendly, super playful & smart guy who's sweet as can be & truly a very good boy. I've been a calm, loving senior with great manners who listens well (& does best with gentle, kind words) & enjoys lots of attention & cuddles. I get spurts of energy that are so fun, but I'm also a great home office dog, lying quietly next to my foster mom while she works. If you've been away for a bit, I will greet you happily with a toy in my mouth—pretty cute! My foster mom says I'm a “super sweet, fun dog who is young at heart & has great house manners.” Doesn't that sound great to you? / Energy Level: 4-6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I'm a proud graduate of the Mostly Mutts Prison Pups immersive training experience so I've mastered the 'sit', 'stay', 'down', 'come', 'drop it', 'leave it' & 'place' comm &s. I also use proper door etiquette & have good leash manners as well as accept nice strangers without jumping. I'm also Canine Good Citizen trained! Let's continue my training as there are more classes I can take through the free lifetime training that Mostly Mutts offers for all their rescue dogs. / My crate manners are perfect in my foster home4—I go in willingly & don't make a sound when I'm in there. My house manners are excellent though & I don't chew things that aren't mine so I don't really need a crate, unless you are trying to feed other pets around me ... food is just so delicious & I want to have it all! So I happily go into my crate while my foster siblings eat so that we can all have a peaceful meal. / I'm doing well with my potty manners on the shelter schedule & did well in the off-site training program & my foster home too. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love spending time with my people, playing with my toys (& I'll happily drop them for a treat!), & getting scratches—I can never get enough! I'm a big fan of tough toys since I tend to make quick work of the soft ones, but that's okay because the hard toys are my absolute favorites anyway! & balls—I really love tennis balls! I also like walks, spending time in my foster's yard & treats (but I take them roughly so flat h & or on the floor, please). I'm also a great car rider & happy to go on adventures with you! I'm sure we'll find lots of other things we will enjoy doing together in my new home. / I don't like to be restrained during my vetting, so I wear a muzzle to help things go smoothly, but my foster is working on restraint acclimation with me & I may not need this in the long run. I prefer a walk-in shower setting over tub please. Otherwise, like all dogs, I'm sure I wouldn't like it if I didn't get enough love, attention, exercise & training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on my annual vaccinations, microchipped & neutered. I also had a dental cleaning, so my mouth is fresh & healthy again! I experience dry eyes from time to time & my foster has helped me learn to take my eyedrops nicely so please ask about this. I arrived with chronic-untreated ear infections. I've had several rounds of cleaning & medications, & my ears are feeling great now, but this may continue to be an ongoing condition due to past neglect. I'll need my family to stay proactive about my ear care, which may include some sedated treatments—just ask for more details. taking fish oil supplements & an allergy/itch medication called Zenrelia to help keep my skin comfortable. I'm a wonderful fellow looking to soak up the good life with a kind & gentle family & to be well taken care of & loved. My adoption fee is $100.00, & I'm located in Kennesaw, Ga.
