In the shelter’s words
Hi, my name is Sargeant! I am a handsome 75lb, 5 year old German Shepherd boy. My previous owner unfortunately didn't have time for me because he worked a lot, so he asked Freedom to help me find a new furever home. My two favorite things to do are play keep away with a ball and go on car rides. When I'm not doing those things, I love snuggling until I fall asleep. I really enjoy going on walks, and just running around being silly. I know some basic commands like sit, stay, down and come. I can also shake with both paws and when you tell me to go to my kennel, I will. I am housebroken but I'm not a huge fan of the crate. That's okay, though, because I can be fully trusted to free roam the house without getting into things I'm not supposed to. I get very excited when I first meet people and will jump, play nip and try to knock them over, but once I calm down and get used to them, I stop doing it. A few notes from Sarge's foster mom: Sarge would do best with an active individual who has the time for him and is willing to continue to work on his training/obedience. He also would do great with someone who doesn't mind getting Sarge kisses! Since I've had him he's done well with other dogs. Sarge will need an experienced owner since he has laser focus and will need help with impulse control. If you would like to add Sarge to your family, please reach out to your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at www.freedomgermanshepherdrescue.org. Sarge is being fostered outside of Fayetteville, NC.

Plan a visit with the source organization
All applicants must pass a vet check, phone interview and home visit in order to adopt. Once an applicant passes, they must sign an adoption contract where they agree to alter the dog by 6 months of age - if they are adopting a puppy, guarantee that the dog will receive proper vet care, food, water and exercise, and will return the dog to the rescue if they can no longer keep the dog for any reason. All dogs are microchipped prior to adoption, with Freedom GSR always remaining on the chip. The adoption fee is $250, adopters receive a 2 week trial period with the dog and if the adopter is found to be in violation of the contract, Freedom GSR will reclaim the dog. All dogs will not be adopted out until they are up to date on shots, free of heartworms and intestinal parasites and altered, if six months of age or older. If a puppy is adopted, the adoption contract stipulates that the puppy must be altered by the time s/he turns 6 months old.
