In the shelter’s words
In honor of Pit Bull Awareness Month, my adoption fee is WAIVED for the entire month of October! ❤ Found in a hay field, fueled by sunshine, and powered almost entirely by happiness. Oatie is proof that joy can have four legs. Meet Oatie.A bright-eyed, sunshine-soaked, three-year-old speed racer with a heart that just refuses to dim.He got his name the day he was found curled up in a pile of hay in the middle of a field: abandoned, alone, and yet somehow still full of hope. You'd never guess what he's been through by looking at him now. Every morning, Oatie wakes up like the world is brand new. He greets the day with zoomies, wiggles, and that contagious, tail-wagging joy that makes you smile before you even realize it.Oatie is a people-pleaser through and through. He loves making his humans happy, and he'll try his absolute best at anything you ask of him, whether that's learning a new trick, settling down for rest, or simply flashing that big, goofy grin of his.In fact, Oatie loves people so much that sometimes he doesn't quite know what to do with all that affection. When he's especially happy, he'll gently mouth your hand or softly nibble your chin as his way of showing love. It's never meant to be rough. Oatie just likes to be as close to his people as possible and can't help sharing his excitement.Oatie recently had knee surgery and has recovered beautifully. He's back to his fast-paced, playful self and is currently taking Dasuquin to support his joints. He's been with us for six months now, showing up every single day with the same happy, hopeful personality, but we know he deserves so much more than life in a shelter.Like many young, active dogs, Oatie is also an enthusiastic chewer. He does best with durable, hard chew toys and should be provided with appropriate outlets for his chewing needs. Soft or easily destroyed toys typically don't stand a chance against this happy guy!He does wonderfully with other dogs who can match his playful, high-energy style, and he'd love a home with kids 12+ who can run, play, and keep up with his zest for life. Oatie has also met cats and actually seems a little unsure of them. Rather than wanting to chase or bother them, he appears more nervous and respectful of their space. Because of this, we believe Oatie could learn to live successfully with a cat, especially one that is confident and comfortable around dogs, with proper introductions and management. And if he seems like a little firecracker when you meet him, it's only because he already loves you. Truly. Oatie's heart is wide open from the moment he sees you.If you're looking for a companion who radiates joy, loves to please, and turns ordinary moments into little celebrations, Oatie might just be your perfect match. Oatie was sponsored by Jody Baker “ The Property Toller”! Please note: All of our animals are spayed/neutered and up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations. Each pet also receives a behavioral assessment to help us better understand the type of home they may thrive in. However, it’s important to remember that the results may not fully reflect an animal’s true personality, as shelter and foster environments can be stressful. If you are interested in meeting any of our animals, we encourage you to first visit our website and submit an adoption application: https://www.acskc.org/adopt-1Once your adoption application has been approved, we will call you to set up an appointment to meet with the pet! Once you’re ready to adopt, head over to our Adoption Application to fill out and submit the form. Once our Adoption Team has reviewed and approved your application, we will give you a call to schedule an appointment with the pet! When you arrive at ACSKC, you will be greeted by our Adoption Coordinator and taken to meet the pet, either in our Meet and Greet Room or one of the play yards. If you already have pets in the home, you may be asked to bring them with you for a meet and greet to ensure they will get along in the home (this typically only applies to dogs). If you and our Adoption Coordinator feel like it is a good match, we will then finalize the paperwork and send you home with a bag of goodies, including our “Welcoming Your New Pet Home Guide,” toys, treats and a sample bag of their pet food. If it is not a good match, you are welcome to meet the other available pets in the shelter. Your approved application will be kept on file for 90 days, so you’re encouraged to take your time before making a decision!
