In the shelter’s words
Hi! My name is Vaquita and I am a 3.5-year-old, 60 lb spayed female. I am already housetrained and crate-trained. I can be left home alone uncrated, though I like to have a crate available to me as a safe space for when I become overwhelmed. I have done well with men, women, and older children with proper introductions. I prefer to meet people at my home, where I have been known to jump into the laps of new friends when they sit on our couch! I love to receive pets, cuddles, and to give kisses to my people; I am overall a super affectionate girl! I love toys, especially balls or rope toys, and am never far away from some kind of toy! I would love a family where I get daily play. I can easily clear a short fence so I either need a yard with a secure, tall fence or no fence where I’ll receive exclusively on-leash exercise. I have unfortunately not done well with other dogs and will need to be the only pet in my home. I show reactivity through barking and lunging when I see dogs from a distance. When I have been introduced to other dogs, I have postured and lunged even with proper introductions. I ride well in the car and would love to find a family dedicated to providing continued training so I could join you for adventures! My leash skills are a work in progress (although maybe I’d be a candidate for the Iditarod?), but I have learned how to sit, come, and roll over. I have also learned how to allow you to dry off my paws when they get muddy! Nail trims are a bit of a different story. I am a happy, smart girl who is ready to find my perfect adoptive family—are you my family? Follow me on Facebook: #EchoDogVaquita For more information, please contact adoptions@echodogs.org. Echo Dogs fosters dogs in many states. Visit www.echodogs.org/available-dogs to see more of our dogs. Transportation for the adopted dog IS available. Remember, we are an all-volunteer foster rescue organization - we DO NOT have a physical shelter to visit. Our minimum adoption donation is $350. All dogs are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations and micro-chipped. Puppies under 6 months old may not be spayed/neutered. This would be the responsibility of the adopter at their own expense. Proof of spay/neuter will be required! Adoption Procedure APPLICATION The first step to be considered to adopt a dog through Echo Dogs White Shepherd Rescue is to complete an application. The Application can be found at the Adoption drop-down menu on the navigation bar above or by clicking here: Echo Dogs Application Form The application is sent electronically to our processing team, where references are checked. (Yes, we really do call your references!) REFERENCES We will call and speak with references listed on your application. The information provided to us by your references is kept strictly confidential. We believe that we get honest information by assuring references that we will not disclose to anyone the content of our conversations. You should call your references to let them know that they may be contacted by Echo Dogs. Occasionally, we have encountered some references, such as veterinarians, who are reluctant to speak with us unless they have your permission. It is easier for all of us if you let them know to expect our call. No application can be approved without veterinary and personal references. HOME VISIT After your application has passed through the reference checks, we will work to get a home visit set up. Either an Echo Dogs volunteer or someone who has agreed to help us (usually another rescue group or animal shelter volunteer) will contact you to set up the home visit. We will contact you to let you know who will be working with you to find a mutually-convenient time for conducting the home visit. Home visits are not scary!! This is often the most nerve-wracking part of our application approval process -- but it needn't be. The home visit is designed to accomplish three main goals: 1. To verify that the information provided on the application is true and accurate; 2. To determine whether the home has the ability to provide a safe, loving environment for a dog through Echo Dogs; and 3. To help determine the personality of the dog that would best suit the home and family.
