In the shelter’s words

Meet Bernard a little dog who proves that the best things often come in small packages. This handsome Chihuahua is about 2 years old and has been making wonderful progress while spending the past several months in foster care. With his sweet personality and gentle heart Bernard is ready to find a family who will give him the patience understanding and love he deserves.Bernard is a small dog with a beautiful, white and copper brown coat. While he is petite in size, (10 pounds) he has plenty of charm to share. He can a be a bit shy at first but with slow introductions and gentle guidance, he will be a confident companion and lap dog. He enjoys being close to his people and continues to grow in confidence as he experiences the world around him. One of the things that makes Bernard so special is his sweet and friendly nature. He is good with other dogs and good with children which makes him a wonderful companion for many families. His history with cats is unknown. He will do well in a fairly active family with his medium energy level. When excitement stirs, he will display his short duration zoomie activity before settling down. Bernard is at master status with his house and crate training. He continues to work hard on his leash walking skills. Although Bernard is housetrained, it is important to remember that accidents can occur while adjusting to a new home environment. Like many small dogs Bernard can sometimes feel overwhelmed by busy environments. Giving him time to adjust and allowing trust to develop naturally will help him feel safe and secure in his new home. With his gentle temperament willingness to learn and success in foster care Bernard has so much to offer. He would thrive in a home where his family understands the importance of patience and positive reinforcement. As his confidence continues to grow he is sure to become an even more devoted companion. If you are looking for a sweet small dog who is ready to build a lasting bond with a loving family, Bernard may be the perfect match for you. This charming boy is ready to leave foster care behind and begin the next chapter of his life with people he can call his own.* When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Bernard is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees.
