In the shelter’s words
Hi there! My name is Bobby and I'm a 2-year-old, neutered, Pit Bull mix. I'm a beefy love bug weighing in at 86 lbs. My friends here at PHS say I'm a good balance of rambunctious and affectionate. I'm big and strong, so I'm hoping for a family that understands bully breeds and is prepared to give me plenty of love, exercise, and training. Since I'm still learning self-awareness, I prefer households that are adult only or with children that are 10 or older. Once I'm comfortable, I become the biggest cuddler you've ever seen! I've been fairly polite when meeting dogs, but I'd like a chance to meet the entire household including any resident dogs before I officially join your family. If you're looking to add more pit bull love tumbles and bear hugs to your home, just ask Customer Service about Bobby! Bobby ID# A0965695 I went on a field trip with a PHS Volunteer! Here's how I did: I picked up Bobby this morning for a day of adventure. He greeted me happily in his dorm. When we headed out he stalled by the staff elevator - I think he wanted to go to the office for his internship, with some encouragement I got him into my car. We took the scenic route to my house and he enjoyed the sights and smells along the way - big smile on his face the entire ride. Once at my house, we went for a long walk around the neighborhood. Bobby really enjoyed sniffing and picking up all the new scents. He was pretty easy to walk though there were moments where he stalled and needed reassurance that it’s safe to keep moving. We passed several houses with barking dogs and Bobby passed without reaction. Once we got to my house, he loved being out on the deck and enjoyed some zoomies to get the energy out. He stayed close to me most of the time and enjoyed affection. At times he was an extra large lap dog! He was great about doing his business outside. I recently spent some time in the office with a PHS Friend! Here's how I did: Bobby was a very polite and helpful PHS/SPCA office intern last week. Although he often slept on the job, he welcomed staff passing by with a big tail wag, quietly played with toys, and didn’t even pay attention to the other furry intern hanging out in the hallway. At lunch time he didn’t beg or jump up on the desk to steal my food. He would also take very quick and efficient bathroom breaks outside because he was so excited to get back to his office tasks inside. Even though his good looks were a bit distracting, he was a pawfect intern and whoever decides to hire him will be very lucky!

Plan a visit with the source organization
When a potential adopter comes into the shelter and sees an animal he or she is interested in adopting, we ask the potential adopter to first complete an Adoption Profile. Then, one of our knowledgeable customer service representatives brings the adopter and animal together in one of our Get Acquainted Rooms. There they have a quiet, private space to get to know each other better. During the visit, the customer service representative may discuss the following: past experiences with animals and current animals in the home lifestyle, including work schedule and the kinds of activities they plan to do with their companion animal housing situation - own or rent, size of yard, etc. In order to make the best match possible for a family and home, we suggest potential adopters bring along all members of the household to meet the new companion animal and bring their current dog(s) to meet a potential dog. Adopters must also be 18 or older.
