In the shelter’s words

Hatch Date: 1999 Annie is a Lilac-Crowned Amazon, she has been DNA sexed female. She has lived with the same guardian most of her life, but her very doting mother recently passed away, which is how she ended up with our rescue. Annie is used to living in the same room as other birds, but she isn't particularly open to sharing perch space with them, so she could do well in a home with other birds or without. She is not overtly aggressive towards others. She does make noises back and forth with the other birds in her foster home. Annie is a bit shy, but enjoys sharing food and spending time with the family. She is a great alarm system, as she very loudly signals when anyone in the family gets home or walks into the room with her until she figures out who it is. She is not suited for apartment or condo dwelling. She mimics a lot of noises, most comically, laughter. She says a few words, and when her favorite family member walks in, she repeats "hello" over and over in excitement. Annie is on a healthy diet of pellets and chop. Her treat food is almonds, and while her foster family is working with her on touch/target training, she is still afraid of the dowel. She steps up, and in the few months she's been in her foster home, she is warming up to both adults in the house, but has a clear preference for the man. Annie enjoys taking showers from a spray bottle. Annie has been disease tested for PBFD and Chlamydia. Annie is being fostered in Limerick, PA (close to the Philadelphia Premium Outlets) and will require 3 in-person visits before adoption. She would make a great addition to the right home. We do not ship our birds. For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA. As our adoptable birds are living in private volunteer homes, we only allow approved adopters to make the required visits. If interested in adopting Annie, please visit our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org. Please read our adoption policies and fees and complete an adoption application.

The first step in the adoption process is the completion and submission of the Adoption Application. The application should be emailed to fortheloveofbirdsnj@gmail.com. Be sure to include two personal references and a veterinary reference. We check the references and then will reach out to you to schedule a mutually convenient time to talk on the phone. After your application is approved and based on your preferences, lifestyle and bird experience we will recommend a bird(s) for you to meet. Or you can let us know if you are interested in adopting one of our available birds. For small birds like finches and budgies, they typically can be adopted after one visit to their foster home. Medium to large parrots require at least three visits with the bird at their foster home. The reason for this is three fold. This provides the potential adopter with time to consider whether the bird is a good match with their family and life style and gives you time to get your house ready for the bird to move in. Second it gives the bird several opportunities to meet with you and get used to you. Many birds are hesitant with new people during their first visit meeting with them. And finally, it allows the foster home to watch how you interact with the bird and they can pass along information on the bird and educate the potential adopter on bird husbandry as needed. All of our adoptable birds are cared for in private foster homes throughout New Jersey. Each of our birds are treated as the unique individual that they are. Please note that we require a waiting period of at least 6 months between bringing new birds into your home. Each bird requires a transition period to be comfortable with their new family and in their new home. Please don't short change your bird by bringing another flock member in too soon. There is an adoption fee; fees are listed on our website. Our birds are sent home with their cage, toys and some food to get you started. Additionally, all of our birds are di
