Rupert is a handsome 16.2-hand Thoroughbred gelding with a sweet personality and a big, goofy heart. With only a few starts on the racetrack, Rupert quickly showed that the racing life wasn't really his calling-and we think he has something much better waiting for him. Rupert came to the SPCA as an owner surrender. He arrived emaciated and with very little experience with the world outside of racing. With time, care, and plenty of TLC, Rupert has made an incredible transformation. Today, he is happy, healthy, and ready to start the next chapter of his life. Rupert is very sweet, goofy, and full of baby energy. He is still learning about life and sometimes acts like the big horse he is hasn't quite figured out how big he actually is! He recently spent time with a trainer working on his ground manners and continuing to learn the basics. Rupert may not have been destined to be a racehorse, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have a bright future ahead of him. He is looking for someone who will enjoy helping him continue to learn, grow, and discover what life has to offer beyond the racetrack. If you're looking for a sweet, fun-loving Thoroughbred with plenty of personality and a fresh start ahead of him, Rupert just might be your guy! Please note that Rupert is not currently housed at the SPCA, so appointments are required in order to meet him.

1. Visit the SPCA at 1002 Monterey-Salinas Highway across from Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. 2. Visit with the pet you are interested in adopting to see if his personality fits your lifestyle. If you are adopting a dog, you can meet him in one of our new dog condo rooms or play in one of our play yards. 3. Complete family introductions (every member of the family living in the house with the animal must meet and visit with the animal prior to adoption to ensure a happy fit for everyone). 4. If you are adopting a new dog and already have one at home, our animal care staff will assist you with introducing your current dog to the dog you are hoping to adopt to ensure a good match. 5. The SPCA adoption process takes approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. All paperwork, vaccination records, and microchip information will be provided at this time. Adoption fees range from $20 to $290. 6. Take your new lifelong family member home!
