In the shelter’s words

Meet Puppy! A spirited four-year-old Australian Cattle Dog/Shepherd mix currently in San Diego, CA, Puppy is a joyful girl whose energy, intelligence, and affectionate nature make every day a little brighter. Her beautiful fawn brindle coat, white accents, and adorable spotted paws seem to come alive when she's excited, and her playful personality has a wonderful way of bringing smiles wherever she goes! Puppy has made tremendous progress through training and proudly earned her Basic Obedience certificate. She confidently responds to commands like "Place," "Heel," and "Sit," and she genuinely enjoys learning new skills with positive reinforcement. Her eagerness to engage, paired with her sharp mind, makes training a rewarding experience and a great way to strengthen the bond she shares with her family. She loves spending time with people and is happy to greet both familiar faces and new friends. Puppy is currently compatible with both dogs and cats, and she has formed a sweet connection with a toddler in her current family. Because she is an energetic dog who appreciates clear boundaries and personal space, especially during mealtimes, she would thrive in a home with older children who can understand and respect those needs. Like many Australian Cattle Dog mixes, Puppy has a delightfully determined streak. She is loyal, entertaining, and full of personality, and she will flourish with a confident, experienced pet parent who enjoys continuing her training and providing the structure she finds reassuring. Puppy does have resource-guarding behaviors around food and high-value items. If she feels those resources are being threatened, she may react by snapping to create distance. Her future family should be prepared to thoughtfully manage this behavior through positive reinforcement, consistent routines, and an understanding of canine body language. To help everyone start off successfully, Joyful Pets offers a complimentary consultation with a canine behaviorist for her adoptive family. An active lifestyle, regular mental enrichment, and a securely fenced yard will help Puppy continue building confidence while enjoying the adventures she loves most. With patience, guidance, and understanding, she has so much companionship, laughter, and loyalty to share. Could Puppy be the fun-loving, clever companion you've been hoping to welcome into your family? Email adopt@joyfulpets.com to learn more about making her a cherished member of your family.
