In the shelter’s words
Hatch Date: 2021 Give a warm welcome to our newest member of the gang Killua-aka- Kiki. Killua is a very handsome 5.5 year old Blue Masked Lovebird. He is both disease and DNA tested having been confirmed male. Killua is not hand tame, but will approach for his favorite treat and once comfortable, will take it from your hand. He is not a biter, he is gentle but as to be expected, is still skittish as he's now been separated by the only caretaker he has known and a foster life is very new for him. This guy is on an incredibly healthy diet, and knows his schedule by heart. AM: He eats a handful of Sprouts..and he loves them. Midday: He dines on a small scoop of Miracle Meal with some added Higgins Egg Mix. Dinner time: He awaits his generous scoop of his Linnie Mix Seed. Killua has a healthy appetite, and both his foods and schedule need to be adhered to. This is a huge factor for his continued well being. Killua appears very healthy and his diet is the main contributor. Lastly, he very much enjoys out of cage time. Door open and he will come out then back in himself until he's ready to call it a day. He is one good boy searching for his forever family. Kiki has been disease tested for chlamydia and PBFD. He is being fostered in Howell, NJ and will require in-person visits before adoption. We do not ship our birds. For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA. As our adoptable birds are living in private volunteer homes, we only allow approved adopters to make the required visits. If interested in adopting Kiki, please visit our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org Please read our adoption policies, fees and complete an adoption application.

The first step in the adoption process is the completion and submission of the Adoption Application. The application should be emailed to fortheloveofbirdsnj@gmail.com. Be sure to include two personal references and a veterinary reference. We check the references and then will reach out to you to schedule a mutually convenient time to talk on the phone. After your application is approved and based on your preferences, lifestyle and bird experience we will recommend a bird(s) for you to meet. Or you can let us know if you are interested in adopting one of our available birds. For small birds like finches and budgies, they typically can be adopted after one visit to their foster home. Medium to large parrots require at least three visits with the bird at their foster home. The reason for this is three fold. This provides the potential adopter with time to consider whether the bird is a good match with their family and life style and gives you time to get your house ready for the bird to move in. Second it gives the bird several opportunities to meet with you and get used to you. Many birds are hesitant with new people during their first visit meeting with them. And finally, it allows the foster home to watch how you interact with the bird and they can pass along information on the bird and educate the potential adopter on bird husbandry as needed. All of our adoptable birds are cared for in private foster homes throughout New Jersey. Each of our birds are treated as the unique individual that they are. Please note that we require a waiting period of at least 6 months between bringing new birds into your home. Each bird requires a transition period to be comfortable with their new family and in their new home. Please don't short change your bird by bringing another flock member in too soon. There is an adoption fee; fees are listed on our website. Our birds are sent home with their cage, toys and some food to get you started. Additionally, all of our birds are di
