In the shelter’s words
Hatch Date: Unknown This is Rowan (recently named), a beautiful Sun Conure, DNA confirmed male, whose age is unknown. Rowan was found outside, and after trying to find his owner for quite some time, he was surrendered to our group. Rowan is a sweetheart. He is a shy guy and is a very unskilled flyer. Despite not knowing his beginnings, Rowan is open to human interaction. He is getting used to hands, and though he has yet to build the courage to step up, he is getting closer every day. Rowan is not aggressive at all and loves to get rid of your hangnails and lick your fingers if you stick your fingers in his cage. We are experimenting with fresh foods, which he is open to trying, but he eats mostly seeds and pellets. His two favorite foods are sunflower seeds and fresh apples. We do not encourage seed as a primary diet, and we think that is all he was being fed at his previous home :/ As a typical Sun Conure, Rowan can certainly project his voice, though it is loud at times; he is quiet for most of the day. He will get excited when you enter the room, but will quiet down soon after, especially if you are interacting with him. Rowan would do best in a home with some form of bird experience, who will have the patience to build a relationship with this amazing bird! Rowan has been disease tested and is negative for PBFD and Chlamydia. He is being fostered in Newtown PA. They will only be adopted into a forever home within driving distance. We will NOT ship our birds. For the Love of Birds is a group of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA. We do not have a central location. Rowan is living in a volunteer's private home. We only allow approved applicants to make visits. If interested in adopting Rowan, please visit our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org Please read our adoption policies & procedures, and complete an adoption application.

The first step in the adoption process is the completion and submission of the Adoption Application. The application should be emailed to fortheloveofbirdsnj@gmail.com. Be sure to include two personal references and a veterinary reference. We check the references and then will reach out to you to schedule a mutually convenient time to talk on the phone. After your application is approved and based on your preferences, lifestyle and bird experience we will recommend a bird(s) for you to meet. Or you can let us know if you are interested in adopting one of our available birds. For small birds like finches and budgies, they typically can be adopted after one visit to their foster home. Medium to large parrots require at least three visits with the bird at their foster home. The reason for this is three fold. This provides the potential adopter with time to consider whether the bird is a good match with their family and life style and gives you time to get your house ready for the bird to move in. Second it gives the bird several opportunities to meet with you and get used to you. Many birds are hesitant with new people during their first visit meeting with them. And finally, it allows the foster home to watch how you interact with the bird and they can pass along information on the bird and educate the potential adopter on bird husbandry as needed. All of our adoptable birds are cared for in private foster homes throughout New Jersey. Each of our birds are treated as the unique individual that they are. Please note that we require a waiting period of at least 6 months between bringing new birds into your home. Each bird requires a transition period to be comfortable with their new family and in their new home. Please don't short change your bird by bringing another flock member in too soon. There is an adoption fee; fees are listed on our website. Our birds are sent home with their cage, toys and some food to get you started. Additionally, all of our birds are di
