In the shelter’s words

Mousers for hire! We have unsocialized and under-socialized cats who need jobs! We are always looking for farms able to take 2-4 (or more) healthy, sterilized, and vaccinated cats. We need places for “teenage” sibling groups as well as adult cats that we pull from local animal control facilities after they are listed as unsocialized or unadoptable because they are feral or because they are friendly but could not handle the shelter setting and shut down, and were therefore placed on the euthanasia list. They need a home at a farm, horse stable, agribusiness, or other suitable property with 24/7 access to shelter. All cats will be sterilized and vaccinated against rabies. We will deliver the cats and help get them set up for their acclimation period. Caretaker responsibilities include providing daily food and water, protection from the elements, and long-term veterinary care. After a short stay in secure confinement (tack room, chicken coop, temporary pen) to acclimate them to the new sights, smells, and sounds of their new home, they will be ready for their new job as mousers! Guidance and advice will be provided during the relocation process. Contact our barn cat program coordinator directly at barncatsgeorgia@gmail.com

Plan a visit with the source organization

We ask that potential adopters fill out a questionnaire asking about their situation, what they are looking for in a cat, existing pets, former pets etc. If they sound like a good match then we arrange a meeting at the foster home. We require adopters to bring a cat carrier in case they decide to take the cat/kitten that day. In GA we can do a foster to adopt agreement for kittens not yet spayed so they sign that agreement and we continue to pay for the kitten's vet care up through the spay/neuter at one of our vets, but if the cat/kitten is already fixed they sign a regular adoption agreement. We do not have a set adoption fee and ask for a donation of the adopter's choice. We start kitten vaccines at 6 weeks, and repeat at 9 weeks, then rabies/neuter/final FVRCP/microchip at 12 weeks, but adopters can adopt at 8 weeks.
