Meet Onyx, a handsome 5 to 6-year-old, 80-pound Shepherd mix with a big heart and an even bigger love for his people. Onyx originally came to Dallas Pets Alive through our Dogs Matter program while his owner focused on recovery. Ultimately, his owner made the loving decision to surrender him so he could have the stability and future he deserves.

Onyx is crate trained, potty trained, leash trained, and does well with kids, cats, and other dogs. He enjoys playing ball, running outside, and chasing around with canine friends, but he also appreciates plenty of downtime. He is very intelligent, curious, and deeply connected to his people. His foster describes him as a gentle giant who loves to keep watch over the home and will happily alert you when someone comes to the door.

More than anything, Onyx is a devoted companion. He loves being near his humans, has stayed close during difficult moments, and truly seems to take his role as protector seriously. He is also quite the talker and is not shy about joining the conversation. If you are looking for a loyal, playful, affectionate dog who will stick close by your side, Onyx may be your guy.

All Dallas Pets Alive adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon adoption. The standard minimum donation for dogs over six months to seven years is $200, puppies under six months is $250, dogs eight years and over are $100 unless specified otherwise.
