In the shelter’s words
Hi there, I’m Otto! I’m a 9-month-old hound pup. I am currently 42 lbs and should mature around 52 lbs. I have lots of cute little spots all over me, which are brown on my legs and black on my body. I came from a shelter in southern Ohio after I was found as a stray with my brothers, Freddy Mercury and Prongs (yes, we have an eclectic group of names). We had been dropped off in a “holler” together. All three of us are adoptable through PAWS now though. I love playing with all doggy friends, including running around with Freddy. I haven’t met a cat yet, but Prongs is good with them and I can be cat tested. I also haven’t met any children yet, but I should be fine with older children (unsure about young children yet). I walk well on leash and just started learning about potty and crate training. Sometimes I get hesitant in new environments that are loud, like when walking near traffic or crowds, so I could use a little more confidence building work. I saw some horses and was initially tentative, but I followed a brave dog friend past them. I went to a pond and jumped right in the water- that was fun. I am an outgoing and happy boy when I’m at home or in quieter places. Hope to meet you soon! Otto

To adopt a PAWS dog: 1. BROWSE. View our adoptable dogs on PetFinder or on our website (powellpaws.org/adoptable-dogs) to find a dog that suits your family and lifestyle. 2. APPLY. Complete and submit your online application on our website powellpaws.org/adoption-application. Make sure that you are completing the Google captcha puzzle to confirm that you are not a robot in order to submit your online application. NOTE: You may need to scroll to the top of the webpage to find the puzzle! Your application will NOT submit unless all mandatory questions have been answered AND the Google captcha puzzle is successfully completed. 3. NOTIFY. Call your veterinarian and provide your permission for PAWS to discuss your petsâ medical history. If you rent your residence, PAWS verifies that your landlord permits the breed of dog in question. Notifying your landlord and/or veterinarian ahead of time can speed up the application review process! A PAWS volunteer reviews your application to ensure that all other dogs in the household are up-to-date on their vaccinations (DHPP, lepto, rabies, bordetella) and are spayed/neutered. Additionally, they verify that any cats in the home are current on their rabies vaccination. 4. MEET & GREET. Upon application approval, the dogâs foster parent contacts you to set up a meet and greet in a neutral location (like a pet store or park). 5. HOME VISIT. The foster parent, dog, and another PAWS volunteer meet you in your home for a home visit. Here, the volunteers observe the dog to make sure itâs a good fit. All household members and pets must be present at this visit. 6. ADOPT! If everyone agrees that this is a perfect match, adoption is the final step! You meet in a neutral location, sign the adoption contract, pay the $300 adoption fee, and take ownership of your new dog!
