In the shelter’s words
Malaysia is a beautiful 3-year-old Staffordshire mix weighing approximately 59 pounds, with unique gray freckles, adoring eyes, and an enthusiastic love for people. This strong, spirited girl brings plenty of energy wherever she goes, but she also has a soft side that loves affection, cuddles, and a good scratch from someone she trusts.Meeting people is one of Malaysia’s favorite things! Her feet get tippy tapping! Her excitement can make those first greetings a little exuberant, but once she settles, she’s happy to soak up attention and enjoy your company. She has so much love to share and is waiting for someone who can appreciate her joyful personality while giving her the guidance she needs.Malaysia is entirely deaf. She already knows a few hand signals, is excellent at “sit,” and does very well on leash walks. Her future person will need to continue building clear visual communication with her, taking the time to help her understand what’s being asked and feel secure in her surroundings.Malaysia also has significant reactivity toward other dogs and needs a very experienced adopter. We have been working carefully with her on dog introductions, and she has gradually been showing less reactivity. These small steps are encouraging, but she still needs considerable support and careful management. We’ve noticed that Malaysia may react strongly and move toward other dogs when they bark at her. Because she cannot hear normally, interpreting those encounters may be more difficult for her, though we cannot know exactly what she is perceiving.Malaysia needs a home where she can be the only dog, with someone prepared to keep her safely separated from other dogs and continue professional behavior support. Her progress does not mean she is ready for casual greetings or shared playtime. Her person must understand her current needs and be committed to supporting her over time.Malaysia may never have experienced living in a home, so everyday household routines could be new to her. With her sturdy build and enthusiastic personality, she can be a bit of a bull in a china shop! She’ll need patient guidance, a predictable routine, and time to learn how to settle into home life. Her ideal adopter will have experience with rescue dogs with complex histories, significant dog reactivity, and the patience to learn how best to communicate with a deaf dog. She needs someone who will celebrate her progress, respect her limits, and provide both affection and consistent support.Behind those needs is a loving girl who delights in human company. Malaysia deserves a home where she can enjoy her walks, lean into affection, and rest knowing she has someone looking out for her.Could you be the experienced, devoted person who gives Malaysia the understanding, stability, and love she needs to thrive?

Plan a visit with the source organization
Potential adopter fills out a form with info on preferred dog as well as what they're looking for in a dog, plus a vet reference among other things. I call them and discuss the dog(s) they're interested in, as well as any dogs I feel would be a good fit. We set up a meet & greet with all human and dog members of the family. If all goes well, an adoption fee is paid, a contract is signed, and the family goes home knowing they can call/text me at anytime for help if needed.
