In the shelter’s words
Meet Gator! Gator is a handsome 3-year-old Shepherd/Retriever mix weighing approximately 47 pounds, and this sweet boy is ready to find a family of his own!Gator has a loving personality and enjoys being close to his people. He loves attention and pets, and one of his favorite things is curling up on the couch for a cozy nap. He may want to be right by your side when you first meet him, but once he settles in, his affectionate personality really shines!Gator is doing great with his potty habits and is learning to hold it until he gets outside. He also does well in his crate while his foster mom is at work. He may whine a little at first, but he eventually settles in.He gets along well with dogs ranging from about 20 to 60 pounds and doesn’t seem to mind cats, making him a potential fit for a multi-pet household.Gator walks on a leash and is making progress, although he can pull a little and would benefit from continued practice with his leash manners. He’d enjoy a home where he can share relaxed evenings on the couch, go for walks, and spend plenty of time with his favorite people.A little about Gator’s health: Gator is fully vetted and ready for adoption. He previously tested positive for Lyme disease and Ehrlichia and completed his prescribed course of antibiotics for both.Gator came to rescue from a rural shelter that was facing a serious space shortage and urgently needed help placing dogs. While Gator himself was not on the euthanasia list, bringing him into foster care helped open a spot for another dog in need. Now this sweet boy has his chance to find the loving home he deserves. If you’re looking for an affectionate companion who enjoys both cuddle time and getting out to explore, Gator might be your guy! Thank you so much for considering a rescued pet as your next family member! People like you extending your faith in second hand pets is what makes our rescue go round. We depend on adoptions to not only enrich the life of our rescue pet, but to save the life of the next one in line, that we can't take until our babies find their new forevers. We want you to know that your time is very valuable to us and we want our entire process to be done in good faith. We need you to be honest with us and we will be honest with you. Any deception found during the application process will be grounds for denial. Requirements: We understand how important your time is and how emotional adding a new pet to the family can be. We are an all volunteer rescue with no paid staff, so we are going to do our best to help you know from the get go if your home environment will be a harmonious fit for what we are looking for in our new adoptive parents. Our checks are extensive, so we ask that you maintain an honest dialogue with us throughout the application. While we believe that any home can become a great one with education, we can not trust applicants that start off on the wrong foot with any untruths during the application process. Your current pets need to be fixed. Unless there is a medical issue or compelling reason that your current pets aren't fixed, we will need to pass on your application. Even though our pets are fixed, elevated levels of hormones in existing pets can cause a greater chance of hostility which can lead to fights. A female going into heat can also make recently altered males act out in a way that wasn't anticipated. We want to set each adoption up for success and mixing our stray babies into a home with unaltered pets is not a recipe for success. Your current pets need to have an active vet history. Monthly preventatives and annual vaccinations are preferred. Some exceptions are made for age and health concerns, but an active history with annual wellness exams are
