In the shelter’s words

Balto: Not Just Beautiful — Unbreakable Currently in Ohio Dutch Shepherd | ~2 Years Old Apply: www.madrescueinc.orgYes — he’s stunning. That brindle coat. Those amber eyes. That presence. But if you’re only stopping because he’s beautiful… please keep scrolling.Balto is not looking for admiration. He is looking for FOREVER — and we will choose carefully. Look closer.See his snout — slightly off kilter. That healed on its own after blunt trauma while he was surviving on the streets. No vet.No comfort. No pain meds.Just survival. ‍Balto survived abuse. He survived starvation. He survived broken bones that healed without medical care.He survived before rescue. And heartbreakingly… he has had to survive after rescue, too. Yes — he has been adopted and returned. Twice.1 First return: inexperienced handler.2 Second return: experienced handler carrying trauma from a prior dog. Both times he lost his home. Both times he came back to MAD Rescue. Both times he had to start over.So let us be clear — lovingly, but firmly: If you do not have staying power… If you are not mentally strong… If you are looking for easy…Please keep scrolling.Balto is not a “let’s try.”He is not a project. He is not a test run.He is a commitment. Who Balto Really Is Incredibly resilient Intelligent Deeply loyal Sensitive, but braveHe is muzzle trained. He understands structure. He thrives with clear expectations and confident leadership. His energy is low to medium in the right home.He relaxes when life is predictable. And when he bonds with you?He bonds completely. There is a playful dog inside him — especially when he sees his ball. For a moment, the weight lifts… and you see the puppy he never got to be.But safety is everything to him. His Home Must Be (Non-Negotiable):• No other pets • No children • Experienced, confident handler • Emotionally steady & trauma-aware • Patient. Consistent. Committed. We are not looking for perfect. We are looking for forever. His home will be chosen carefully this time. Intentionally. Protectively. Because he deserves that. Balto is more than beauty. He is strength. He is healing. He is resilience in living form.He has survived everything thrown at him…Now he needs someone who will never throw him away. Let this be his last transition.Let this be his forever.***********************************************************************All MAD dogs come with a Fi Collar and six month subscription.
