He may be called Bubble Boy, but all he really needs is a bubble filled with love, comfort, and someone willing to be his hero. Meet Bubble Boy (aka Loki), a 7‑year‑old orange tabby with a heart as big as his personality. His previous family adored him and went above and beyond to manage his severe allergies, but ultimately made the heartbreaking decision to surrender him when his care needs became overwhelming. Much like the character from the Bubble Boy movie, this sweet guy just needs a safe, stable environment to help keep his world comfortable.From the moment he arrived, Bubble Boy has been sweet, talkative, and eager for affection. While his scabby fur may catch some people off guard, he’ll quickly climb into your lap, stretch out a leg, and beg for love like he’s known you forever. He’s allergic to more than ten different things—including fleas, mites, and trees like hickory—and relies on long‑term medications to stay comfortable. His current regimen includes Apoquel (16mg, ½ tablet daily), monthly allergenic extract injections (1ml every 28 days), Prednisolone (5mg), and Fluoxetine (8mg) to help him feel his best.He has lived with dogs before and did well with them. He has also lived with cats, though he didn’t get along with them in a multi‑cat home. We believe he may do well with one calm, older cat who respects his space.Bubble Boy also thrives on a special sensitive‑skin diet, including Purina Pro Plan Adult Sensitive Skin & Stomach Salmon & Rice dry food and Purina Pro Plan Focus Sensitive Skin & Stomach Arctic Char canned food. He’s looking for someone who doesn’t mind a little extra care and finds joy in helping a special‑needs pet live his best life. Plan a visit with the source organization
Once you’re ready to adopt, head over to our Adoption Application to fill out and submit the form. Once our Adoption Team has reviewed and approved your application, we will give you a call to schedule an appointment with the pet! When you arrive at ACSKC, you will be greeted by our Adoption Coordinator and taken to meet the pet, either in our Meet and Greet Room or one of the play yards. If you already have pets in the home, you may be asked to bring them with you for a meet and greet to ensure they will get along in the home (this typically only applies to dogs). If you and our Adoption Coordinator feel like it is a good match, we will then finalize the paperwork and send you home with a bag of goodies, including our “Welcoming Your New Pet Home Guide,” toys, treats and a sample bag of their pet food. If it is not a good match, you are welcome to meet the other available pets in the shelter. Your approved application will be kept on file for 90 days, so you’re encouraged to take your time before making a decision!
