In the shelter’s words
Hatch Date: 1988 Peanut is an older sweetheart. He is a 38 year old Goffins Cockatoo with a darling disposition. He loves to get kisses either on his head or beak, and is very easy-going for a cockatoo. He seeks out scratches and interaction, and warms up pretty quickly to those who are kind to him. He is friendly with nearly anyone who interacts with him, but seems to prefer women over men. He is still learning to step up, but loves to fly to his foster mom's shoulder. He is an excellent flyer. He loves to keep actively climbing all around his cage and perches. He shows excitement by jumping up and down, and dances to music sometimes by doing the same. He doesn't seem to have any words, but makes some very endearing sounds when he's happy or showing affection. While he doesn't step up yet, when it's time to go to bed or into his cage, his foster mom just says to him to go there and he does without issue! Peanut is by no means an incredibly loud bird, but can squawk or scream when he wants attention. He doesn't seem to like other birds. He may do best in a family where he is the only bird, but as long as he has his own space, and both birds are not out together, for a special situation, he could potentially be in a home with other birds. He had an all pellet diet when he came into his foster home, but seems open to a lot of vegetables, with a preference for steamed carrots. Peanut has shown no aggression or concerning behaviors toward humans in his foster home, and would make a wonderful addition to the right family! Peanut has been tested for Chlamydia and PBFD. He is being fostered in Schwenksville, PA and will require three in-person visits before adoption. We do not ship our birds. For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA. As our adoptable birds are living in private volunteer homes, we only allow approved adopters to make the required visits. If interested in adopting Peanut, please visit our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org. Please read our adoption policies, fees and complete an adoption application.

The first step in the adoption process is the completion and submission of the Adoption Application. The application should be emailed to fortheloveofbirdsnj@gmail.com. Be sure to include two personal references and a veterinary reference. We check the references and then will reach out to you to schedule a mutually convenient time to talk on the phone. After your application is approved and based on your preferences, lifestyle and bird experience we will recommend a bird(s) for you to meet. Or you can let us know if you are interested in adopting one of our available birds. For small birds like finches and budgies, they typically can be adopted after one visit to their foster home. Medium to large parrots require at least three visits with the bird at their foster home. The reason for this is three fold. This provides the potential adopter with time to consider whether the bird is a good match with their family and life style and gives you time to get your house ready for the bird to move in. Second it gives the bird several opportunities to meet with you and get used to you. Many birds are hesitant with new people during their first visit meeting with them. And finally, it allows the foster home to watch how you interact with the bird and they can pass along information on the bird and educate the potential adopter on bird husbandry as needed. All of our adoptable birds are cared for in private foster homes throughout New Jersey. Each of our birds are treated as the unique individual that they are. Please note that we require a waiting period of at least 6 months between bringing new birds into your home. Each bird requires a transition period to be comfortable with their new family and in their new home. Please don't short change your bird by bringing another flock member in too soon. There is an adoption fee; fees are listed on our website. Our birds are sent home with their cage, toys and some food to get you started. Additionally, all of our birds are di
